2012 John McCrae Scholarship Award

August 01, 2012

Laura Daniel of Kingsville is the latest recipient of the John McCrae Scholarship award. She received her $1500 cheque from John McCrae on July 28th. John remarked “Laura is a dedicated, caring, enthusiastic, mature and disciplined young woman and I know Laura will achieve her goals that she has set for herself”.

This fall Laura will attend the University of Windsor majoring in Engineering. She made the Honour Roll throughout high school. It was here that Laura “began to understand that by utilizing the invaluable attributes curling has taught me, with the knowledge that school has given me, I could go anywhere and do anything I wanted to.”

Growing up as the eldest of four girls her first priority has always been faith, family and friends followed closely by education and curling. Her curling career has taken her through bantam and junior competition. In grade 9 she determined to create a curling program in school. In 4 years of devotion and commitment, she taught, coached and led her school team to OFSAA finals in her graduating year.

Forget the 40 hours of volunteer work required for school, Laura logged over 600 hours, much of it directed towards another passion of hers - fundraising for cancer research.

Laura is a well rounded, exceptional curler in pursuit of her education and we wish her continued success.
